Apple opens up Mac OS X Lion for Developer updates

Apple’s latest Mac operating system, OS X Lion, is seemingly getting closer and closer to a public release every day. Apple themselves have now reached out to the developer community and has invited them to make submissions for the Mac App Store on Lion.

An email was sent to Apple App makers and developers alike, stating that the new laptop and desktop software was “soon be available to millions of Mac users around the world,”. However, the email still specifies no date or time for the official release.

Last month at Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference (Apple WWDC) the super tech company announced its highly anticipated operating system update, Mac 10.7  OS X Lion, and it appears that Apple are looking towards change with its Mac OS and Lion is the one to get the ball rolling.

The new OS will have over 250 new features including Multitouch gestures, full screen applications and the new “Mission Control” feature which allows for easy-to-manage and organise windows – perfect for multitasking at a convenient-to-user arrangement.

OS X Lion will also have the new Mac Store which will be a major feature in the OS X Lion update. This will bring opportunity for developers to integrate and benefit from built-in sandboxing.

So the developers update being open is a good signifier that Apple are almost ready to release its latest Cub tothe world. Apple normally request submissions 11 days before launch of a new product for initial release, so we should see Lion very shortly.

All these new features however will come at a cost, but not a huge one as the Mac OS X 10.7 Lion update will be available to buy on disc or to be downloaded for the reasonable price of just £25. We can also expect a new MacBook Air line refresh soon after or alongside the Lion update.
