UPDATE: New Apple Macbook Air Models On Sale

  • by

The new Macbook Air models for 2011 have been revealed and are expected to hit the online Apple store today at around 1:30pm.

There will be two new models available in sizes of 11.6-inches and 13.3-inches, both of which will feature a very similar body and design to that of the current Macbook Pro models. The major change here is in the hardware – Apple has beefed up the specs to make the Macbook Air on a par with the regular Macbook.

Both models will have new Intel Sandybridge Core i5 and i7 processors and the Thunderbolt port for monitors and super-fast external hard drives. LED Backlit keyboards also make an appearance in the new range. The new models are detailed fully below:

Macbook Air 11.6-inch

Entry Model – 1.6GHz Processor, 2GB RAM, 64GB Flash Storage

Top Spec – 1.6GHz Processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB Flash Storage

You’ll also be able to choose specifications to suit your needs in a built-to-order fashion from the Apple Store online. Extra options include a 1.8GHz processor, 4GB RAM and 256GB Flash Storage. Obviously, with Apple these options will come at a premium price on top.

Macbook Air 13.3-inch

Entry Model – 1.7GHz Processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB Flash Storage

Top Spec – 1.7GHz Processor, 4GB RAM, 256GB Flash Storage

Again you can spec out a 13.3-inch Macbook Air to order. The same 1.8GHz processor upgrade, 4GB RAM and 256GB Flash Storage options are available for both models.

The new models have been confirmed by 9to5mac’s ever-trusted source, Mr X. We expect the new line of ultra-thin notebooks to be sold in Apple retail stores starting tomorrow with the new Mac OS X Lion.

The Apple Store online currently shows the familiar “We’ll be back soon!” post-it note, which only makes an appearance when Apple are adding new products to their webstore. Could this be for Mac OS X Lion, the new Macbook Air range or even both?! Stay tuned here to find out more as the story unfolds.

UPDATE: Apple have now added the new range of Macbook Air notebooks to their webstore. The specifications are exactly the same as above!
