Epic has issued a warning to gamers who have leaked Gears of War 3 gameplay and footage on YouTube, saying it has ways of rooting out the spoilers and that bans will be dished out to the offenders when the exclusive Xbox 360 third-person shooter is officially let loose on September 20th.
Speaking to a number of online game sources, Rod Fergusson – Executive Producer for the GoW3 developers Epic spread the threat: “We’re extremely diligent about getting that stuff taken down and issued a call to fans not to perpetuate it…[we’re] keeping track of those who do. I don’t think everybody’s aware of the potential repercussions of those types of actions.” He tells one site.
The un-complete version of Gears of War 3 was leaked as a torrent file in early July. The file included a playable version of the single player mode as well as some of the multi-player content and Microsoft were quick to address the situation at the time stating “This content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches worldwide on September 20, 2011.”
Reassuring the repercussions of sharing the leak or the contents of the file which would spoil the final product are no idle threat, the Epic Exec tells another site: “We have a banning system built into our stuff so we can go in and identify certain people…if you don’t value this community, you don’t value this experience, then we don’t value you.”
