Wow, things are moving really quickly in the mobile CPU world at the moment. NVIDIA have just recently demonstrated one of their new CPU chips code named “Kal El” which is a quad-core beast, although not wanting to be left out, Qualcomm have decided to let everyone know what they have in the pipeline.
A presentation slide has made its way onto the World Wide Web and shows details of the next generation of Snapdragon processors which certainly look impressive to say the least.
The new generation will use the “Krait” CPU architecture and will be able to offer speeds of up to 2.5Ghz per core, 150% better performance and still be able to use 65% less power than current Snapdragon CPUs.
It’s expected that the dual-core MSM8960 will be sampled sometime next month and is also suggested that it will feature in a HTC device by the end of the year.
Qualcomm are due to start shipping its first quad-core CPU, the APQ8064, early in 2012. That means that Nvidia will in fact be the first chip manufacturer to release a quad-core mobile CPU which is also rumoured to be used in the next version of Google’s Nexus phone.
