The Guardian releases “Media 100” 2011 results – The Zuck is up while Ballms bombs!

A few of the Gadget Helpline’s regular namedrops pop up in The Guardian’s annual list of 100 most influential people in UK media, and Mark Zuckerberg – social mogul and founder of Facebook has it topped.

Experts in tech, PR and media put together the “Media 100” list, which saw social networking take the top spots, with Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey following the Zuck in second place. Even besting tech-deity Steve Jobs of Apple, who dropped from last year’s first place down to fifth in 2011’s.

Microsoft’s mad maestro fared even worse – Steve Ballmer bombs by not even making it to top 100. Considering Microsoft’s only media outlet is the MSN network, this is not surprising. While rival Apple commands much more of the media market through its influence with the iTunes service.

Big Ballms was not alone however, as tweet-savvy comedy actor Stephen Fry also didn’t make the final cut this year, despite his influence over 2,839,734 followers on Twitter.

Other names familiar with tech aficionados appearing in the list are Google’s Larry Page in 3rd place, Spotify’s Daniel Ek in 40th and face of YouView, entrepreneur Sir Alan Sugar surviving at 99th.

The “Media 100” list can be read in full on The Guardian website.
