HTC Bootloader unlock will void your warranty!

  • by

HTC recently brought out some of their best smartphones yet, with the dual-core Sensation and the EVO 3D. The developer world had a problem and that was the locked bootloader on these two handsets; this was HTC’s attempt to stop the rooting and flashing of custom ROMs on the devices.

The locked bootloaders have however not stopped the developers at xda, as they will find ways around the locked bootloaders – they have even got the EVO3D overclocked to 2GHz!

HTC have previously promised unlocked bootloaders for these two devices and they are sticking to their word. However, there is a catch: If you unlock the bootloader on the Sensation or the EVO 3D you are effectively waving good bye to your warranty, as if anything goes wrong with your handset you will be up the creek without a paddle, as the old saying goes.

The process of unlocking the bootloader seems quite simple, but you will need the Android SDK developer tool to do it. You will need this to get a ‘device token’ that you then enter into the web tool that HTC will release for the devices. From here the tool will do the rest of the work for you.

There is no definite date for when HTC are going to release the tool, but it looks like it could be by the end of the month, fingers crossed.
