You’ve seen the software, now see the phone. Where there’s smoke there’s always fire, and shortly after screenshots of HTC Sense 5.0 leaked out we’ve been treated to a rather legit-looking high res render of the M7; HTC’s flagship smartphone for this year.
We love picking out rumours and leaks, but let’s face it; the render of the M7 we saw last week was a little basic, and the real-life snaps that came shortly after were far too blurry. Our expert eyes reckon this render is the real deal, and here’s why. The phone follows many of the design cues as HTC’s recently launched Windows Phone 8X, with a very similar shape and neigh-on identical ear piece.
Flip over to the back and the wide angle rear camera lens and LED flash placement is the same, as is the Beats Audio logo and micro-drilled speaker holes just below that. Of course, this all leads us to think that somebody might just have just tweaked an image of the 8X in Photoshop, but its authenticity has been confirmed by several sources who have used the phone in the flesh.
So it would seem that HTC is sticking with a formula that it already has rather than separating its Android and Windows Phone ranges entirely, which we don’t think is a bad thing. We still can’t figure out why the home icon has been moved from its usual central position to the right, but perhaps it’s something HTC will be doing on all new phones going forward.
The M7 is said to rock Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5.0 on the software side of things and a quad-core Qualcomm processor and 2GB of RAM for enough power to make a slick and speedy handset. On the back we’re rumoured to be getting a 13-megapixel camera, with no option for a micro SD card or removable battery.
