Nokia has given us our first clue to the mystery that is the release date of the N9 smartphone.
The Finnish manufacturer has launched a new site featuring a countdown timer and some interactive plays with the handset on-screen, all with a distinctly Swedish flavour. Our maths is a little rusty but we’re pretty certain that the countdown finishes at 10am on September 23rd. Is this the release date for Nokia’s MeeGo-powered N9 smartphone?
We had initially heard whispers of a September 15th release for the N9, hopefully this means the UK will be getting the handset before other countries!
Nokia also gives us the chance to become one of 30 lucky N9 pilot testers who will receive the phone in September to test and give feedback, and best of all keep the phone.
There are also some pretty neat interactive walkthroughs and demos of the handset to give you a flavour of how MeeGo works. The N9 is Nokia’s first, and possibly last, smartphone to be based on the MeeGo software platform.
The Swedish countdown website is the only of its kind, so perhaps Nokia are looking to release the N9 exclusively in Sweden before anywhere else. We’ve got our fingers crossed for a UK release on the same date as we’re pretty excited to get our hands on the N9.
