Nokia launching Lumia 920, 820 and 620 in India

Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 device resurgence is in full swing since the Finnish company launched its latest range of Lumia smartphones to Europe and the US in November of last year, but now it’s looking like the company is expanding its phones to the rest of the world.

Nokia has announced that they will be expanding their Windows Phone 8-sporting Lumia 920 and 820 to new parts of the world by releasing the handsets in India from tomorrow onwards in “select retail stores across major cities”.

Nokia have always had a good relationship with the Indian market due to its budget Symbian phones selling well, and last year the company launched a range of Asha budget smartphones which first debuted in India before anywhere else.

The Lumia handsets will be priced similarly to the US and UK pricing, with the Lumia 920 coming in at Rs. 38,199 ($698) and the Lumia 820 at Rs.27,559 ($504) so Nokia will still be aiming for the premium end of the market and relying on the older models for the affordability sector.

That said, Nokia have also expressed plans to release their budget WP8 running handsets in India. Joining the 920 and 820, the Lumia 620 will be arriving early next month in India to complete the Lumia WP8 lineup.

The 620 is the latest handset in the new Lumia range and was announced in December of last year. Nokia says that the handset will land in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa first from January, with Europe and Canada following “soon thereafter”, so India will be getting the phone before us.

There is currently no news on pricing for the 620 but Indian customers can pick up the new Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 from tomorrow.
