Samsung’s rumoured Galaxy Note 8 tablet is expected to be officially revealed at next month’s Mobile World Congress, but it looks to have made an early appearance in public.
Italian tech site DDay.it has snapped a couple of pictures of the device in use and we have to say they look legit. Unlike last year’s Note 10.1, the Note 8 has followed the design of Samsung’s smaller Note II smartphone, giving it the look of a giant phone.
The tablet is finished in the same Marble White and sporting a matching home button and back/menu touch buttons below the display, which insinuate that the device is designed to be held in portrait mode like a mobile phone rather than in landscape mode a la full-sized tablet.
The images also give away the fact that the new Note will sport a rear camera with no LED flash module and a front-facing camera for video calling and selfies. As we expected, there’s also a slot in the casing to house an S Pen stylus – it wouldn’t really be a Note without one, would it?
From these shots the Note 8 looks pretty nifty, although it’s clear that it won’t be set to tackle the kings of the tablet world. The device is expected to fit into the mid-range market with a price tag of around £300-£350, sporting an 8-inch HD display, 2GB of RAM and a 1.6GHz quad-core processor.
We’re expecting the Note 8 to go toe to toe with Apple’s iPad Mini and Google’s Nexus 7, although it may be priced more closely to Apple’s offering than Google’s.
