The rumours of a third Nexus smartphone from Samsung and Google are all but officially announced, as a support page for the Samsung I9250 (aka Nexus Prime) has appeared on samsungmobile.com.
Pre-empting an official announcement that must be coming very soon, Samsung added the I9250 model number to their Samsung mobile site, giving it a support page just like any other phone they currently sell.
The page currently contains no device image or software information, but interestingly does contain some FAQ and How-To pages that have been taken from other Samsung mobiles, such as the Omnia 7.
We’ve been anticipating the third flagship Android phone for quite some time now. The first was the Nexus One manufactured by HTC, the second was the Nexus S manufactured by Samsung.
Google like to employ the use of big name smartphone manufacturers to create for them a top-of-the-range Google-branded smartphone, and this time it looks as though Samsung have the job for the second time in a row.
We’re anticipating the Samsung I9250 to be called the ‘Nexus Prime’ when released, in keeping with the Nexus brand that Google use for its flagship smartphones. It will run the next version of Android software, Ice Cream Sandwich, which is due to be released sometime near to the end of October/early November.
Previously we heard whispers that the Samsung Nexus Prime would launch in October, and coupled with Google CEO Eric Schmidt’s recent admission that Ice Cream Sandwich would launch in October or November, we’re pretty certain the launch date will be near the end of October.
Apple are gearing up to launch the iPhone 5 at some point in October, with pre-orders supposedly beginning during the first week of that month. Google and Samsung launching the next top Android smartphone at the same time could cause quite a stir in the mobile world.
