Creative Labs’ 7 and 10-inch ZiiO tablets are one of the most wallet friendly of the new tablet breed, with the former weighing in at only £199. This low price point is never without its caveats, though – one of which was that it launched packing a pretty outdated version of the Android software.
Now Creative has looked to fix that, announcing that the tab ZiiO will receive a bump up to Android 2.2 (otherwise known as Froyo) this Friday. The update, which will be available from Creative’s website, will allow users to store apps to the memory card and bring a general speed increase to the OS. The 10-inch version will receive the update a week later.
With Android 3.0 being the OS du jour for most Android tablets this year, you might feel that 2.2 is still a bit behind the curve. If that’s the case, you can install a ROM of 3.0 (AKA Honeycomb) from the XDA-Forums. Got a Creative ZiiO? Let us know your thoughts on the budget tab on the Gadget Helpline Twitter feed.
