Seeing as how Nintendo is riding high on the back of the success of the 3DS launch last week, it may come as a shock to hear that the company’s next home console won’t be following in its portable brothers’ 3D footsteps.
Speaking to CNN in the US last night, Reggie Fils-Aime, head of Nintendo America, laid rest to rumours that the still-unconfirmed Wii 2 will include the eye-popping tech. He suggested that glasses-free 3D is the “big deal” to Ninty and – since that’s a while away from being a reality in consumer TVs – the company will be focusing on HD instead.
Reggie said: “We’ve not said publicly what the next thing for us will be in the home console space, but based on what we’ve learned on 3D, likely, that won’t be it.”
