Skype for Android updated to patch security flaw, adds 3G calling

  • by

Last week, a serious security vulnerability was discovered within the Skype app for Android devices. The loophole was due to incorrect file permissions, and meant that hackers would easily be able to gain access to a device’s contact list, message history and possibly more.

The good news is that Skype have just released a patch for the security flaw, fixing the problem and adding a nifty new feature for good measure too. Android users will now be able to make VOIP (Voice over IP) calls with the Skype app for Android using their mobile 3G data connection. Until now, you would need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network in order to make a call.

You can download or update Skype for Android directly from the Android  Market now, so head on over and get stuck in!
