Sony Ericsson announces new Android Walkman phone

Sony Ericsson has just announced a new addition to their popular Android range. This time, it’s the company’s first Android Walkman smartphone, called the W8.

In terms of appearance, the new W8 is very much like its brother, the XPERIA X8 – in fact it sports a similar specification as well. This includes a 3-inch capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels; obviously there is also a 3.5mm audio jack, and also a 3.2MP camera. The new W8 is powered by a 600 MHz single-core CPU and has 168MB of RAM. Also, as it is a Walkman branded phone, it will also be supplied with some decent headphones to enjoy your music on the go – the MH410.

The W8 will run Android 2.1 (Eclair), which is a surprise considering a lot of ‘droid devices on the market at the moment have at least 2.2,. However, Sony Ericsson may have plans to upgrade the OS sometime in the future.

The Sony Ericsson W8 will be available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam starting from Q2 2011 with a selection of colours including Azure Blue, Metallic Red (as shown above), and Iconic Orange .

At the moment Sony Ericsson has not confirmed the price of the W8, or if it will be eventually released in any other countries.
