Rumour surfaced when the Apple Store was down earlier today, and now all our suspicions have been proven correct – The iMac is Back!
Apple has revealed the specs for the latest reinvention of its signature desktop computer range – and it’ll come tearing in on quad-core Intel Sandy Bridge processors with some seriously impressive new graphics tech and a new way to connect to your other gadgets through the Intel Thunderbolt connection.
In a press release from Apple, it was revealed that the new range of iMacs will be available as two models featuring the popular aluminium design. Behind the stylish exterior the 21.5” model will pack a 2.5GHz or 2.7GHz quad-core i5 processor, AMD Radeon HD 6750M for high performance graphics and a 500GB hard drive. Alternatively, Big Bro weighing in at 27” comes thundering along with a 2.7GHz or 3.1GHz, also with Intel quad-core i5, AMD Radeon HD 6770M and 1TB hard drive.
The new iMacs will feature backlit LED display and FaceTime HD camera for High Definition video calling between supported Macs, also allowing for Standard Definition calls to iPad 2 and iPhone4.
Both 21.5” and 27” models will boast Intel’s I/O Thunderbolt technology, with dual protocol chipset allowing for external connection for devices such as DisplayPort and PCI Express – firing an impressive 10GBps between linked devices bi-directionally – that’s 20 times faster than USB 2.0! Both computers in the range will come with the feature – the only difference being that the smaller model iMac will feature only one port while the larger is accommodating for two.
Prices for the next-gen Apple iMac range from £999 for the 21.5-inch 2.5GHz model up to £1649 for the 27-inch 3.1GHz model. Shipping starts today with orders being taken through the Apple website including free delivery!
