When quizzed on the existence of such a device in a recent interview, Amazon cheif Jeff Bezos let out a tantalising hint with just two words: “Stay tuned.” For our money, that response speaks volumes. When pushed, Bezos said no more, except to say that the Kindle ereader will always have a place in Amazon’s lineup: “We will always be very mindful that we will want a dedicated reading device. In terms of any other product introductions, I shouldn’t answer.” No hint of a denial there, though.
The word is that an Amazon tablet would run on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), but with its own overlay smeared on top, so as to better integrate the Amazon Store and Kindle ereading talents with the homescreen. Amazon’s own Android app store would also make an appearance.
