E3 2011: The Sims on Facebook – the end of real-life?

Say it ain’t so! – Two of the most annoying forces in the history of social-technology are set to unite – when life-experience simulator “The Sims” launches on social-experience simulator Facebook this summer. Is this the end of real-life?

The Sims Social will invade the Social Network on both desktop PC and mobile when the add-on application for Facebook is launched, meaning more of those needy “help me” and “join this” pleas from bothersome members of our friends list who have far too much time on their hands.

Jeff Karp of Electronic Arts, the makers of addictive fake-life franchise The Sims says “EA invented people simulation games with The Sims. Over the last decade The Sims has sold in excess of 140 million units and spawned an active fan community that has grown into the millions”. Combined with the 600-million active users currently bothering Facebook and it’s a union designed to displease.

The official Facebook spiel reads “Develop deep relationships to unlock new features and advance: befriend and fight, date and cheat, love and betray” – so it’s just like the average Facebook “news feed” but with Sims branding?

If you’re into that kind of thing The Sims Social app page is live to preview now at www.facebook.com/TheSimsSocial

Those with a real life are advised to avoid!
