Apple now confirms reports last week that an “extremely small” number of iPad 2 devices have been recalled by Verizon in the United States over faulty connectivity.
No further shipments are being made from China and customers having already purchased their iPad 2 through Verizon are being urged to return them to the store for serial number scanning to identify units from the faulty batch.
Apple’s spokesperson confirming the recall situation states that a unique coding which allows the iPad 2 device to be found by a network were duplicated in error – meaning that some units weren’t uniquely identifiable and were unable to connect.
Any stateside customers finding a bad Apple are to drop the tablet back to the Verizon store of purchase for that serial check and free replacement – if the iPad is found to be one of those affected by the dodgy connectivity code.
