The ITV Player catch up on demand service is getting another BBC iPlayer-battling add on with the release of the new ITV Player Android app, which is now live and free to download from the Android Market.
ITV Player is a catch up on demand service which brings together all the best entertainment form the ITV service and its digital channel services ITV 2, ITV 3, ITV 4 and CITV. The service will offer a free catch-up on all ITV shows aired for up to seven days after broadcast.
The service will debut initially on the Android platform for users who have the Google Android 2.2 (Froyo) or higher software, provided you’ve got Adobe Air 2.6 or higher installed and are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Apple fans however will need to wait a while longer as the service will be coming to the iOS platform in the coming months, but with no set release schedule or dates available yet.
There’s a new catch-up TV service in town for Android users. ITV player for Android is now live in the Android Market, offering unlimited access to seven days worth of past programming from the network’s four channels.
Unfortunately, just like the BBC iPlayer app, ITV player does not offer live streaming. There is however plenty to catch up on from past TV shows.
The app is free to download with unlimited usage, the only catch being that users outside of the UK won’t get access to the service, and users in certain regions will be restricted to only viewing ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 programmes.
ITV Player should be a great addition to anyone’s Android smartphone, and will certainly give people their X Factor and TOWIE fix on the move, but it still has a long way to go before it starts to trouble the excellent BBC iPlayer service.
