Motorola’s super tough Android smartphone, the Defy, is getting an update to Android 2.2 (FroYo) in the UK!
Vodafone customers in the UK will be able to update their Motorola Defy handsets right now from Android 2.1 (Eclair) to Android 2.2 (FroYo).
Motorola made the announcement via its Motorola Europe Facebook page, stating “Motorola DEFY users in the UK on the Vodafone network can now update their devices to Android 2.2 (Froyo)”
Android 2.2 will bring about a number of changes and new features to the tough smartphone. The handset should run faster and smoother thanks to the FroYo software, and flash web content will now be viewable which is a massive plus.
Apps can be saved to an inserted MicroSD card with FroYo, meaning you won’t run out of memory on your phone anytime soon. Those apps will also update automatically thanks to the new FroYo software.
There’s also a new Profiles feature which allows the user to create three sets of personalised homescreen, contacts search from the homescreen and an application task manager to help kill off troublesome apps.
Motorola’s Motoblur interface will still feature in the new update, so you’ll still have your social networking, messages and email all combined into one on your homescreen.
The Motorola Defy is an Android smartphone with a difference. It’s dustproof, splash and scratch resistant, and generally very tough which makes a welcome change from some of the rather flimsy smartphones out there.
Vodafone UK Defy owners can get their handsets updated by going into Settings > About Device > Software Updates > Check for Update, though Motorola say you should get an automatic message prompting you to update over the next few days anyway.
