The Gadget Helpline’s Wiltshire offices today bore witness to a sad farewell for British history and a day that will go down in the books as the end of an era, as four Hercules aircraft made a low-level flight over Wiltshire to say farewell to the county before heading to their new home at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
The planes took off from RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire for the last time at 10:30am on Friday the 1st of July 2011 and set off on one of their last fly overs before the closure of the base as part of a strategic review of military bases.
The Gadget Helpline’s partner company WebVideoProductions were on hand to capture the moment as the four Hercules did a symbolic lap of their home county before heading to Brize Norton in Oxfordshire where the planes are set to be rehomed.
RAF Lyneham is due to close in 2012 and already some 1,400 military and civilian personnel have transferred to the RAF Brize Norton base.
It was an amazing spectacle for the thousands of people who watched the low-level flight over Wiltshire, but still a sad day for the county and the history it entails.
Farewell from the Gadget Helpline.
