Windows Phone 7 is on its way to Japan by the year’s end – after reports first hit back in February of Microsoft’s intentions to get the smartphone OS on the market in the Far Eastern country.
It’s been nine months since Windows Phone 7 was launched and it would seem if schedules are set in stone the Land of the Rising Sun will go straight to Mango – complete with location-based local apps – when the update goes live and the nation at long last get’s its mobile Microsoft platform.
Microsoft’s Japanese President Yasuyuki Higuchi is quoted (through translation) as saying “Mango is in the final stage, carriers and manufacturers, together with content providers, and are also developing services-enabled applications.”
Specific apps for the Japanese market would include a range of specialized software for entertainment, restaurants, gaming, shopping and social networking – with the Fujitsu company touted as the new partner to supply the tech to support the Window Phone 7 operating system and meet Microsoft’s critical requirements.
