Sony has launched a new feature for the Playstation Network, presumably in an attempt to make people forget the recent security woes.
PSN Pass will provide users exclusive access to online gaming and content for a specific game, kind of like an individual online portal provided with each copy of a game.
The first game to come with PSN Pass access will be the Playstation 3 exclusive Resistance 3, released this September.
Sony issued a statement earlier to coincide with the announcement:
“We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities,” Sony said.
“This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.
“This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.”
The PSN Pass scheme could also serve as a gentle nudge to gamers to buy their games brand new more often. If a PSN Pass game comes with an individual code and you then sell the game, the second hand buyer can’t reuse the code and therefore play the game online.
