RIM is preparing to update App World for Blackberry smartphones and tablets to version 3.0 shortly, taking the software to version 3.0.
We know this because developers of Blackberry apps are now receiving notification from RIM that the App World will be changing to include some new features, an improved design and new information which will need to be provided by developers when submitting an app.
The App World was taken down for maintenance yesterday (6th July) to add the 2 additional information fields for developers submitting an app. As of now, developers will need to add the following to their app information:
- Short Description – RIM want developers to include a one line “sales pitch” or piece of information on their product. They say this is to help make apps more discoverable. There’s a maximum of 50 characters for this, so developers: make it short and sweet!
- Feature Image – Developers can now submit a “featured image” for their apps. This will put an app on the front page of App World with a larger, featured image. Again, promoting app awareness for developers.
With this in place we can see that RIM is stepping things up a gear with App World 3.0. We’re hoping to see the new App World shortly, though perhaps it will be released at the same time as the Blackberry Bold 9900?
