Microsoft proudly showed off some of the next wave of Windows Phone smartphones, featuring handsets from their new Mango hardware partners Fujitsu, ZTE and Acer. Asides from these handsets, the much rumoured Samsung Galaxy S II-like Windows Phone device also made an appearance.
Pictured above is the Samsung SGH-i937, a very slim and lightweight smartphone running the new Windows Phone Mango software. Unfortunately we weren’t treated to any juicy details on the specifications, so all we have to go by for now is looks. The handset seems to be of similar styling to the hugely popular Galaxy S II, though finished in a glossier black and with slightly more rounded corners.
“It’s very thin and light,” confirmed Steve Guggenheimer, corporate vice president, original equipment manufacturer division at Microsoft. Steve proudly presented the phone for all to see at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference yesterday evening.
We also saw two fairly standard black touchscreen phones from ZTE and Acer, the latter of which we believe to be the same model we saw earlier this year when Mango was announced. There was also an interesting waterproof touchscreen handset there from Fujitsu, the pink device pictured above.
Microsoft has said that all four devices will feature in the run-up to Christmas this year, confirming that the company will really be pushing Windows Phone Mango to compete with the new iPhone from Apple this festive season.
