Apple has released another incremental software update for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, this time to plug yet another security hole in their iOS software.
The latest exploit discovered by developers was one related to the PDF file type and how it is opened on Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices. This security hole was then exploited to create a new type of Jailbreak – one that was so incredibly easy to install without even connecting your iDevice to a computer – the jailbreakme.com hack.
Word of this new exploit hit Apple hard. Always keen to ensure security of their devices is tip-top, Apple set about fixing this problem as soon as possible – Apple doesn’t like its customers jailbreaking their devices, you see. Jailbreakme.com was the first jailbreak to work properly on the new iPad 2, so understandably Apple wanted it fixed even sooner than usual.
Today they have released iOS 4.3.4 as a fix for this problem, which if you install onto your iDevice, you won’t be able to make use of the jailbreakme.com hack. However, if you stick with iOS 4.3.3 and don’t update, you’ll still be able to use this jailbreak absolutely fine, so be warned!
If you’re not reliant on a jailbreak for your iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd or 4th generation, iPad or iPad 2, then we would strongly recommend connecting your device to iTunes and install the update. It fixes a vulnerability in the device software which may allow malicious PDF files to gain access to your files.
