There are many different mods for our Android devices and none more popular than CyanogenMod. There have been several different incarnations of the CyanogenMod ROM, and the latest has been ported to the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Android is one of the most open Operating Systems available on a smartphone and because of this developers love to make the devices run quicker and faster. Installing something like CyanogenMod doesn’t necessarily mean a massive change – a lot of users just like the look of Native Android – no TouchWiz or Sense add-ons – they want Android in its purest form. To make this change as user-friendly as possible, that’s where CyanogenMod comes in.
It is the custom software that is available on the widest range of Android handsets. If it has not been ported officially by the CyanogenMod team, there is a developer who has taken this great ROM and ported it themself.
The Galaxy S II is the latest addition to the CyanogenMod club and will officially be supported by the ROM, thanks to Samsung themselves sending the CyanogenMod team a Galaxy S II to work on. It’s not quite ready yet but there has been a video of CyanogenMod 7 booting and running on the Galaxy S II.
Personally I am not too keen on the TouchWiz UI that Samsung put on the Galaxy S II, so CyanogenMod would give me a reason to be a little more interested in it. Anyone with the Galaxy S II who has ever flashed a custom firmware on another device will be happy that this ROM will soon be available on the Galaxy S II.
