“Oh no he didn’t!”
Google Chairman Eric Schmidt has spoken out about the recent patent lawsuit fiasco between Apple and many Android smartphone manufacturers, most recently HTC and Motorola.
We know that Schmidt has no quibbles with taking the fight to Apple as he has shown before, and this instance is no different. Clearly unaware of the words “subtlety” and “reserved”, Schmidt accused Apple of being jealous over Android’s success with manufacturers such as HTC and Samsung.
Speaking recently at the Google Mobile Revolution conference in Tokyo, Schmidt addressed the issue: “the big news in the past year has been the explosion of Google Android handsets and this means our competitors are responding,”
“They are not responding with innovation, they’re responding with lawsuits” He went on to add.
We don’t see many other big name rivals of Google filing lawsuits aplenty, so we’re going to go out on a whim and say Eric’s outburst is aimed directly at Cupertino firm Apple.
Apple have recently filed for patent infringement suits against HTC in which they claim as many as 5 HTC Android smartphones “borrow” ideas from the iPhone and iPad. Last week an ITC judge ruled that two of these infringements were indeed correct, meaning HTC and other Android smartphone manufacturers could be in trouble.
Eric Schmidt said “We have not done anything wrong and these lawsuits are just inspired by our success” and that Google would stand by HTC during this case. He didn’t explain exactly what Google would be doing to aid HTC in this matter, however.
