Virgin Media’s ultra-fast 100MB broadband has taken the UK by storm, now serving 25% of the UK’s Internet users in over 6.5 million homes in 160 towns and cities.
The fibre optic network provides incredibly fast speeds of up to 100MB in download and is now used by millions of customers across the United Kingdom.
Virgin Media say they aim to complete the roll out of their fibre optic network by mid-2012, by which time the speedy broadband will serve double the current customer base to almost 13 million homes.
The UK Government aim to provide the best possible broadband service to as much of the country as possible before 2015 and Virgin Media say they are leading the charge, providing fibre optic broadband to more customers than any other ISP.
Virgin say their “blisteringly fast” 100MB service is over 16 times that of the national average broadband speed – quite some claim!
Along with the increase in broadband speeds Virgin have been ensuring their customers get the top upload speed as well. Behind the scenes Virgin’s upload speeds have been upgraded completely free of charge, some of which to 10MB.
Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media said: “Virgin Media has consistently led the greatest developments in broadband in the UK and we’re proud to continue this tradition with the roll-out of our 100Mb service. But we’re not stopping there – we continue to develop broadband technology with trials for 200Mb taking place across the country and we have deployed a cutting-edge 1.5Gb cable broadband trial in East London. Only Virgin Media has the network to drive forward the UK’s digital economy, giving Brits a true world-class digital entertainment service at their fingertips.”
Virgin Media’s 100MB service costs £45 per month on its own or around £35 with a phone line bundle.
