With the release of the 2011 line of Macbook Air notebooks it would seem that Apple are quietly phasing out the hugely popular White Macbook.
If you want to get your hands on what is currently the cheapest way to get a portable Mac then you’d better act fast, as Apple has already pulled all pages relating to the White Macbook from their websites.
You can no longer buy the White Macbook from any Apple Online Store, the cheapest option for a Macbook is now the entry level 11.6-inch Macbook Air (£849) which was released yesterday. We’ve managed to confirm that Apple retail stores and licensed Apple resellers are still stocking the White Macbook, but we would imagine that when stocks run out that will be it.
Apple last released a new Macbook in 2010 when they updated the students’ favourite white model. The case was made more rounded and slim along with a processor upgrade to a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo.
Now it would seem that Apple want to keep their laptop range all-silver with the Macbook Pro and Air range – they’ve got no room for the white plastic model in their inventory anymore.
We’re not sure why Apple are dropping the White Macbook but we hope they will announce a new model later in the year. Would you buy one of the new Macbook Airs over a White Macbook? Share your thoughts with us by adding a comment to the page below.
