Little over a month ago Skype for Android got its update to version 2.0 – sure it had a few new bearly noticeable features such as the “mood” / status updater, a snazzy new interface, and a few bugs were squashed but the key feature of the Skype software – the video chat – was still left missing for a large number of mobile handsets despite being the main reason for a push to update.
Today Skype have it sorted – for most Android users anyway. Version 2.1 begins its rollout with a much-improved compatibility list which extends to include 17 additional model mobile phones including Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Sensation and Sony Ericsson Xperia Play – amongst many others.
However, downloading on all Android handsets does not ensure that video chat will work. Skype does inform “Unfortunately, if you cannot see the video calling settings, it means your Android phone does not meet the minimum requirements needed to make Skype video calls” – so it’s worth checking the list first to save wasting yourself time and battery life!
