Microsoft Devs Mock Sony on Twitter After PSN Font Fail

  • by

A typeface designed for Xbox One title Sunset Overdrive has been used in a Sony PSN advert creating all kinds of amusement from the devs behind Microsoft’s latest exclusive.

The font fail appears on the PlayStation Store’s promotion for its Sale of the Dead – a selection of Halloween treats for PSN users which includes up to 65% and 80% off a range of devilishly good digital content with games such as Dead Space and Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and vampire TV show True Blood. But it would appear Sony might have missed a trick..

The lettering used in its logo is lifted directly from the box art and advertising for the upcoming surreal third-person shooter Sunset Overdrive which is released on October 31st – only on Xbox One!

Insomniac Games, the developers of Sunset Overdrive, made the font publically available to download recently after fans requested it to use. It looks like someone inside Sony was also a fan, and unbeknownst or as a tongue-in-cheek tip of the hat used the unmistakable typeface, complete with target over the ‘O’. The font itself is even called Sunset Overdrive!

The best part of the story is the tweet from the @SunsetOverdrive Twitter account when they spotted Sony’s ad:
