Xbox One Celebrates Year One with Free Gifts for All

Xbox One celebrates its first year on the market this Saturday and Microsoft has detailed a bounty of rewards for those who have kept the faith since Day One.

Microsoft’s next gen console, which was first unveiled shortly before the E3 event in May 2013, went on sale on November 22nd 2013 initially touching down on thirteen global regions and all those who have bought the Xbox One since its release will be treated to digital gifts such as a Year One gamer picture, new Xbox One backgrounds, Year One background image to use on Twitter, free rental of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, free rental of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods movie with sample of the Dragon Ball Z TV show (US and Canada only).

Gamers who are signed up to Xbox mailing list will also receive an achievements celebration email, praising all their in game rewards gained over the past twelve months – a period which has seen a total of 2 billion hours of gameplay on Xbox One since launch.

These items will be available from Friday and other lucky Xbox One owners will be drawn at random over the weekend to win some exciting digital and ‘physical’ extras revealed by Microsoft programming boss Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson via the Xbox blog. The big prizes include:

The Xbox One has not been without its troubles in its first year on sale. The last twelve months have seen software and hardware issues and regular downtime for the Xbox Live service much to the distress of console owners.
