Motorola Moto G (2013) and Google Play Editions of HTC One get 5.0 Lollipop Updates!

Fans of the Motorola Moto G from last year (2013) can rejoice somewhat, as the previously Google owned smartphones are now starting its Android 5.0 Lollipop update as of now.

A recent post in the XDA Developers forum has shown that the update should be landing for the Motorola Moto G from now, with the post specifically mentioning the Moto G XT1033 hardware model which was one of the first versions of the Moto phone.

The user also provided a Screen grab of the update landing on a phone and displaying the version 220.21.16.en.03 of the Android firmware, which helps to make us feel like its not a hoax.

However, the release does not mean that the update will be landing on the handsets in the UK anytime soon (the leak stems from India) As most updates are both regional and released in batches.

What it does mean is that Google are staying fairly faithful to its older flagship phones, as the 2013 version of the Moto Android line-up were all produced when google Owned Motorola, and thus carry pretty pure versions of the Android OS.

It’s not just the Moto phone that are getting some Christmas Lollipop action, as it seems HTC are releasing the 5.0 update for its Google Play editions of the HTC One (M7) and HTC One M8. Word is that the OTA updates are now available for the handsets, with the non-Google Play versions coming soon after the release of the Google Play Editions.

Moto G Gets Android 4.4!

We at the Gadget Helpline love the Moto G (both the 2013 and 2014 versions) as the phone prove to be some of the best budget smartphones on the market. The Mot G 2013 has a decent the 4.5-inch display, 8GB of memory, 1GB of RAM, a 1,280 x 720 display and 5MP rear-facing camera all for £120, which is a bargain.
