With the Dark Knight rising in cinemas next weekend and just a snip too late to get a mention in our recent Essential Guide to Bat Apps, Games & Gadgets reports have surfaced from the shadows suggesting that the follow-up to the award winning Batman: Arkham City should be expected in 2014 and it might not strictly be a follow-up at all but rather a prequel.
Set during the ‘Silver Age’ of DC Comics – the publisher of the Batman comics since the Caped Crusader’s earliest adventures in 1939 – the next game in the Rocksteady developed series is said to introduce the Justice League of America and be based around the Dark Knight’s first encounters with arch nemesis the Joker. For those who don’t know (and should know) the JLA is a superheroic team-up to rival even Marvel’s Avengers and who’s line-up in printed history has included such greats as Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash and Batman himself.
This would make for an exciting predecessor to the Warner Bros. published Arkham legacy which has wowed gamers with two titles already in the story arc on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC with the most recent title becoming available soon for the new Wii U in a special ‘Armoured Edition‘.
But with the return of The Joker the question of course arises – who will voice ‘The Man Who Laughs’ in a prequel game now that Mark Hamill has reportedly retired from the infamous role?
