The highly-anticipated Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul will arrive on Netflix in the UK on February 9th, just a day after it airs on US television.
From the writing talents of Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould the series, as the title suggests, follows the character of Saul Goodman – with Bob Odenkirk reprising the role of the crooked lawyer who helped (and hindered) the Breaking Bad protagonists from seasons two to five and Better Call Saul takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico both before and after the events of the original show. But despite being a spin-off the makers of Better Call Saul suggest that viewers won’t need to be die-hard fans of Breaking Bad to get into this new series. It will of course be advantageous to have some knowledge of the locations and characters before heading in – especially as there will likely be some crossover references and the character Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) also makes a return as a series regular. Aaron Paul has been rumoured to be in talks to make an appearance as Breaking Bad character Jessie Pinkman and Brian Cranston, Walter White/Heisenberg himself has been tipped to direct a few episodes in the near future.
The pilot episode will be shown on AMC in the States this Sunday, 8th February and will be available to stream on-demand via Netflix on Monday on both sides of the pond. Subsequent episodes will go live weekly on a Tuesday for the duration of the 13-part first season. Reviews are looking good for this first episode and a second season has already been commissioned before the first has even aired with Netflix locked in as exclusive streaming platform allowing UK viewers to see it as soon as possible.
Netflix also became the on-demand location for Breaking Bad for its climactic fifth and final season in 2013, updating episodes on a weekly basis and adding all previous seasons to its streaming library so subscribers could catch up with Walt and Jessie from the very beginning. We recommend having a marathon session this weekend before Better Call Saul lands this Monday!
