Microsoft now allows you add your MP3s to OneDrive and play them via Xbox Music

Following the likes of Google and Amazon, today Microsoft have announced that users of OneDrive will be able to add their music collection to the online storage service, which has been linked to Xbox Music allowing you to stream all your favourite music to your Xbox, PC and also Windows Phone device too (unfortunately no mention of iOS or Android devices).

The online music streaming market is certainly a popular choice amongst users and Microsoft are keen to take a slice of the Pie in terms of offering its users a similar service to what’s currently available from Google with its Play Music service that allows users to store up to 20,000 tracks (although that has now been increased to 50,000), and also Amazon Music which offers a similar service too.

If you happen to have a Microsoft account which you use in conjunction with OneDrive and also Xbox Music, you should see a music folder appear on your OneDrive account; from there you will be able to upload up to 50,000 tracks from your own personal music library in audio formats such as MP3, M4A (AAC), and WMA.

Once you’ve uploaded your music library, the tracks will become available for playback in Xbox Music, regardless of whether you’re using the clients for PC, Windows Phone, Xbox, or the Web. All the audio will be listed as songs in your collection, and you’re free to stream them as many times as you want.

Finally, if you’ve not noticed a new folder appear, make sure you’ve accepted the Xbox Terms of Use; you can do this by signing into xbox.com. At the moment, the new music service is available in the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the United States.
