LG has announced the retail launch of a quartet of middleweight Android smartphones which were first revealed at this year’s Mobile World Congress.
Specific regional release dates and prices are still to be detailed but LG’s press release states that the handsets titled Magna, Spirit, Leon and Joy will be rolling out globally from today, starting in South America and ‘followed closely’ by Europe, Asia, Middle East Africa and North America. Each of the four utilise LG’s ‘premium design elements’ making for some attractive and affordable handsets which come carrying Android 5.0 with an LG customised user interface which includes Glance View. All come with quad-core processing clocked at between 1.2 and 1.3GHz and they will each find their spot in the mid-range of the mobile market with choice of 4G and 3G connectivity available.
Individually each model has its own merits starting with the biggest of the bunch, the LG Magna, which measures 139.7 x 69.9 x 10.2mm and features a 5-inch 720 x 1280 HD touchscreen display with 294ppi pixel density, 1GB RAM with 8GM internal storage and microSD support up to 32GB. The rear camera offers 8-megapixel quality and there’s a generous 5-megapixels up front.
Next down the size spectrum is the LG Spirit at 133.3 x 66.1 x 10mm with 4.7-inch touchscreen and the same resolution specification as the Magna but with 312ppi pixel density. Storage options remain the same as does the rear and front facing cameras at 8-megapixel and 5-megapixel respectively.
The third of LG’s Russian dolls (technically Korean dolls) is the LG Leon which at 129.9 x 64.9 x 10.9mm offers a bit more girth but the close framing to the 4.5-inch 480 x 854 pixel display lessens the bulk and makes for another stylish looking phone. Again there’s 1GB RAM and 8GB onboard storage with expansion to 32GB available. 5 and 8-megapixel cameras are back again as well.
Fourth and final of the handset releases is the LG Joy, including a 4-inch touchscreen packing 480 x 800 pixels and 233ppi pixel density and some respectable specs into a 122.7 x 64 x 11.9mm frame. Storage remains the same as on the bigger siblings, with main camera capturing 5-megapixels and with a VGA front camera included too.
Now that LG’s phone foursome are loose on the world’s middle market we await the all-important prices and dates for our side of the pond.
