Amiibo collectors can now unlock playable portions of some of the best titles from gaming’s yesteryear with a new feature called Amiibo Tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits.
Nintendo’s latest gift to Amiibo owners is an exciting new addition to the ever growing range of abilities accessible through the NFC connected figurine platform and Nintendo’s Greatest Bits is based on the Virtual Console platform used in co-operation with a free downloadable app for the Wii U. The app is available now from the Nintendo eShop or via the console’s Home menu.
With the app installed you can tap down any one of the collectable figurines to your GamePad to open up playable scenes from one of 30 games from the NES and Super NES back catalogue including Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda and Metroid.
Each of the scenes can be played for three minutes a pop and multiple scenes can be toggled through by tapping the Amiibo to base again and again to find a personal favourite or memorable moment from Nintendo’s history.
Nintendo has always been fan oriented and has introduced another great way to utilise the popular Amiibo figures giving Nintendo lifers a chance to revisit their gaming childhood and also offers a nice introduction for the younger generation of gamers to see where favourite characters originated from and enjoy these games for the very first time.
