Developer Rovio took the Angry Birds on tour this weekend and gave revellers at the Rock in Rio USA festival a first look at a brand new version of the popular app game – one which uses Virtual Reality to give the player a real bird’s eye view!
Angry Birds VR is currently just a demo and a release date is not yet known but a playable version has been doing the rounds at the first leg of the four-day music event which itself made its debut outside of Brazil on the 9th and 10th of May and was headlined by the return of Metallica .Screenshots reveal that the Angry Birds VR game will follow the same plan as the original, utilising bird and slingshot for destructive effect. But this one flips the familiar formula and places the viewer behind the foul-intentioned fowl as they fly towards their targets.
Angry Birds VR will require the use of Samsung Gear VR headset, which it was being trialled on, or similar virtual reality gadget for smartphone. Movements of the head will help direct the bird in flight, and we dread to think what happens when they make impact!
Since showing off Angry Birds VR at Rock in Rio USA, Rovio has had plenty to tweet about the game over on Twitter and have been encouraging their followers to use the rather clever hashtag #FlockInRio. Rock in Rio continues on the 15th and 16th of May with its Pop Weekend where Angry Birds VR is again expected to be showcased next to talent such as Ed Shearan and Taylor Swift.
With downloads of the previous Angry Birds games now said to be in the billions we’ll have to wait to see if our furiously feathered friends can hit the mark once more!
