LG G4 Beat Smartphone Announced as Mid-Range Flagship Variant

LG has found a way to get its premium smartphone brand out into the hands of an even wider audience by announcing a slightly spec’d down mid-range version of its flagship model which it’s calling the LG G4 Beat.

Not to be confused with the LG G4c, which was announced in May, the LG G4 Beat – according to the product announcement on the LG Newsroom, promises “the best features and functions of the LG G4, delivering value without compromising performance or usability”. To do that it will feature the same stylish appearance as the original with metallic (plastic) diamonding effect (though no leather it seems) and it will come with the latest Android update 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.

Whereas the main model G4 comes with 5.5” touchscreen display with 2560×1440 pixel resolution, little bro rocks up with a still respectable but slightly smaller 5.2” HD IPS 1920 x 1080 with 423 pixel per inch density. Processing also takes a step back and is supplied by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 octa-core CPU which is clocked up to 1.5GHz. So it’s still fairly zippy, and offers enough of a kick to support multimedia features, including 1080p video playback and data transfer the handset’s Wi-Fi and 4G / LTE network speeds – all of course depending on what data services your provider offers. 2,300mAh of battery life is standard on the model and the cell is removable and interchangeable.

The LG G4 Beat’s main camera comes in with a fairly decent 8-megapixel with Colour Spectrum Sensor and Auto Focus keep everything looking sharp. An ample 5-megapixel shooter is also up front to keep your selfie game on point.

LG is yet to announce a date and specific availability on the LG G4 Beat but say to expect it to arrive initially in Europe and Latin America (where it comes with a generous 13-megapixel rear camera). It will pop up in other regions soon after, and some specifications are said to vary per region. We’ll hopefully be able to confirm the price, date and stockists for the UK release very soon.
