Google’s review of the most searched, and indeed the most important events of 2015 has come in at last via Google Trends – top searches included celebrities, this year’s hottest digital media, and some of the most moving headlines to come out of a year that frankly has been extraordinary in so many ways.
For what it is, Google manages to capture the purest essence of what it is to be a part of today’s digital world in incredible detail, highlighting how ‘the questions we ask show who we are’ in the recently released video that went out alongside the statistics.

As the search engine stands alone as the ultimate measure of what’s hot and what’s not, Google’s statistics are incredibly relevant, no matter if you agree or not. For example, worldwide search engine logs showed that the most Googled term of 2015 was none other than… Lamar Odom?
For those of you who don’t know, Lamar Odom is a former US basketball player and former/continuing spouse of Khloe Kardashian – Odom was found tragically, some say heroically, passed out in a Nevada brothel recently, culminating in one of the year’s top celeb scandals. When it comes to Google searches, the Kardashian/Jenner clan seem to be up in the top, with Caitlyn Jenner appearing at the number nine spot.
With regards to more serious news with real life consequences, the top ten also saw major inclusions from two high profile terrorism incidents in Paris, with Charlie Hebdo and Paris itself appearing as the second and fifth most searched terms respectively.
In terms of media, dinosaur epic Jurassic World, starring the godlike Chris Pratt, managed to be the fourth top ranked search term, and surprisingly a late entry, Fallout 4, made it into number seven. The game hasn’t been out much longer than a month, but according to notorious adult film site Pornhub it managed to take a sizeable chunk out of their traffic on launch day. Oh dear.

Lastly, and most heinously, Google also managed to collect statistics for one of the most puzzling events of 2015. Over 73 million searches were made about The Dress, and we still have no clue whether it was blue and black, or white and gold. One for the history books I’m sure.
