Gaming Weekly 22/07/16 – Pokemon GO, Star Wars Battlefront, Mini NES, No Man’s Sky, Maiden: Legacy of the Beast

The Gadget Helpline’s GAMING WEEKLY is here again! Sorry we missed you last week, but Pokémon GO is life.

(Usually) Each week our dedicated team of gamers will gather some of the top gaming news and announcements from the last seven days and deliver them here to you, our fellow players!

“PoGoer” Creates Custom Pokédex in Order to Catch ‘Em All!

In the wake of Pokémon GO’s launch, and only a week into what could be a lifelong epic for some people, I am predicting Pokémon accessories for those out on the hunt that could include smart clothing, backpacks etc.

For many “Pogoer”’s these items will be a matter of course, some though, go a little further and knock their creative juices out of the park!

We already have the Pokémon GO Plus wearable on the way, but one player in particular that I would like to highlight here is a blogger/life-hacker on Sparkfun going under the moniker NPoole.

Fed up with the drain of Pokémon GO on his battery this ingenious individual created his own Pokédex in the Kanto era style via 3D printing and vision, coupled with a dash of electrical engineering.

Not only this but he has also posted images and diagrams explaining just how to make your own. All you need is a 3D printer and grim determination and this could be yours.

To read his/her article please head here and check it out, he deserves full recognition for this work of art.

Star Wars Battlefront to Include Rogue One DLC

Star Wars Celebration Europe happened over the weekend and along with the nostalgia of the original trilogy stars appearing live on stage and a taste of things to come on the big screen with future movie offerings we also get some news from EA Games and DICE regarding Battlefront and the addition of DLC based on the next film – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Rogue One will be a spin-off movie – not directly linked to the Skywalker Saga (original trilogy, prequel trilogy, new trilogy) and is set for a December release in cinemas. It will be set chronologically between Episodes III and IV with rebels trying to obtain the plans to the original Death Star which leads into the events of A New Hope.

Despite no gameplay footage to share yet (probably to control spoilers), EA confirms that the film’s female lead Jyn Erso will be a playable character when the Rogue One DLC becomes available at some point nearer to the movie’s release, as will her Imperial nemesis Director Krennic. It was also confirmed that Battlefront Season Pass holders will get to play as these characters a fortnight earlier than others players.

As well as the Rogue One DLC pack, we can still look forward to a new Death Star update arriving in September which with mark the long awaited arrival of Chewbacca as playable character and also the bounty hunter Bossk. This has been teased with a trailer which we have included below.

No Man’s Sky ‘Combat’ Revealed in New Trailer

The long awaited (and much delayed) No Man’s Sky will finally be arriving on August the 9th and a new trailer has been released revealing some of the combat scenes from the upcoming action adventure game for PS4 and Windows PC.

Combat is one of No Man’s Sky’s “four pillars” which also include exploration, survival and trading and each trailer in the series offers an insight into each of these four elements. Video 2 – FIGHT shows off epic space battles and combat from the stars to planet surface with first person shooter action and if you’re a fan of sci-fi film you’ll probably spot nods to the likes of Star Wars and War of the Worlds in the new teaser footage.

No Man’s Sky
will be massively ambitious with a procedurally generating online game allowing interaction and trading with other players with cause and effect on how the world around you changes in response to actions and also an offline mode will be available. It’s been a big undertaking for the developers to offer a seamless gaming experience with so many diverse elements, hence the delays (the game was first announced in 2013).

Maiden: Legacy of the Beast Unleashes “Eddie The Head” on Android & iPhone

The world’s greatest metal band and globally recognised franchise Iron Maiden has taken the inevitable next step in building its business empire – an app game for Android and iOS based on its cult mascot Eddie the Head!
Called Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, the free-to-play app allows players to control Eddie in various forms as he’s been seen on the cover of the Irons’ albums throughout the various eras in the bands forty year history with five different classes to choose from – Warrior, Magus, Sentinel, Gunner or Assassin. These are Eddies based on the classic artwork from such epic LP as Powerslave, Killers, Somewhere in Time and of course, Number of the Beast.

Legacy of the Beast also incorporates themes from Maiden’s songs in its environments and in the foes that Eddie must conquer, with Horus and the Wickerman notably appearing as enemies to beat in order reclaim pieces of Eddie’s soul (obviously). What’s also cool for fans is that the game includes previously unheard versions Iron Maiden tracks in it’s soundtrack.

For a free game (with purchasable bonuses), the Maiden game is pretty rich in detail featuring 3D graphics and quite an enjoyable gameplay experience, even if you’re not a fan of the band (if not, why not?) It’s not just an app to sell the brand name, it’s actually a well thought out and developed game which we highly rockamend!
