Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is currently seeing record-setting pre-orders and drops onto Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows PC on November 8th and now Infinity Ward has revealed that work is underway on a release for the first-person shooter Nintendo Wii release – with an ETA of “late 2011”.
Treyarch, Activision’s multiple platform development division, will be handling the crossover. They’re the guys who previously tackled Call of Duty: World at War and Black Ops bringing the popular action-adventure title to Nintendo’s family-fun machine and creator Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist Robert Bowling puts faith in the platform saying “The Wii has grown so much as a platform.”
Nintendo’s Wii is oft-referred to as a “Home Entertainment” console, and therefore generally fronts the child-friendly and mother-approved section of the gaming market, the Wii doesn’t handle a game the scale and style of the Call of Duty series every day, so it’s got to be done right. IW’s CS is confident “The great thing is Treyarch proved that you can have an awesome experience on the Wii with Call of Duty. They’ll actually be handling that for Modern Warfare 3.”
Details are vague on how well the transition to Wii will be, but if the successes of preceding titles is anything to go on Modern Warfare 3 will do good for business and be another fan-pleaser when it emerges. Infinity Ward are aiming for to bring back CoD on Wii by the end of this year.
