Sharp have teamed up with ISP EAccess to release a new tablet on the Japanese market. As with many Japanese Gadgets, the name Galapagos A01SH might not be the catchiest but the device itself looks up to scratch.
So what we are looking at is a 7 inch tablet with the latest incarnation of Honeycomb, 3.2. This is quite a small tablet to be running Honeycomb on, but the rest of the specs make up for it. You get a 1024×600 screen resolution, powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor and 1GB of RAM.
We have a 5MP camera on the back with a single LED flash and a 2MP front facing camera. Each tablet will also come with a 42Mbps 3G mobile router for mobile browsing, to accompany the inbuilt Wi-Fi.
The internal memory on the tablet comes in at 8GB and is expandable via SDHC up 32GB . Battery life is quoted at 7.5 hours or 6 hours for continuous video playback.
So what sharp have given us is a mid-range tablet for the masses. Both Sharp and EAccess want the tablet pushed out ASAP, so a release is set for the end of August for the Japanese market. The 7-inch Galapagos has already been through the FCC testing, so it could be coming to a wider market soon.
