Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be removed from sale in almost all European countries including the UK, due to Apple winning a legal battle against the Korean electronics manufacturer.
Just days after Samsung’s fantastic iPad 2 rival went on sale in the UK, Apple has been awarded an injunction by a German court which will prevent the sale of the device in all EU countries except the Netherlands.
The Telegraph reports: “The Regional Court of Dusseldorf has granted Apple a preliminary injunction against the sale and marketing of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 across all of Europe except the Netherlands. It is possible to apply for a pan-European injunction in any country which, if upheld, covers all of the EU. The judge backed Apple’s claim that Samsung’s tablet infringed on its patents and copied elements of the iPad 2.”
Samsung and Apple have been battling out patent infringement lawsuits for a long time now, with Apple being the accuser – saying that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab range and Galaxy S smartphones copy directly from their own iPad and iPhone products.
The court ruling is a massive shame, as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a truly brilliant device and is the first tablet in a long time that has a chance of really rivaling Apple’s iPad 2. Early sales figures have even indicated that the Galaxy Tab has been the fastest selling tablet device since the iPad 2.
What do you think of the decision to withdraw the product from sale? Should a German court ruling affect other countries including the UK? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
