A number of bugs within some of the apps running on Android mobile handsets could cause bedlam, says security expert Riley Hassell.
Speaking of a security flaw in some apps on the Google operating system which could disturbingly allow Android handsets, for example your new Samsung Galaxy S 2, to be control remotely by hackers the founder of Privateer Labs says “If these apps are vulnerable, then an attacker can remotely compromise that app and potentially the phone using something as simple as a text message.”
Hassell refused to name the apps, leaving users mobile vulnerable, and suggests that if these apps were in fact named it would cause chaos amongst ‘droid-heads and developers alike: “When you release a threat and there’s no patch ready, then there is mayhem.”
Instilling fear that over half of Android’s most popular apps are affected with security weaknesses, Hassell said at the Black Hat hacking conference that he’d been in contact with Google, but they have denied the claims of any identified bugs within Android software.
