Sharp has officially announced a new 3D Android smartphone to join the market, the dual-camera toting Aquos SH9298U.
The new smartphone joins the likes of the LG Optimus 3D and the HTC EVO 3D in the 3D smartphone market, becoming the third 3D smartphone to be released by a major manufacturer.
This smartphone runs Android Gingerbread, version 2.3.4, and features a glasses-free 3D display plus two 8-megapixel cameras on the back to capture 3D video and photographs.
Sharp haven’t disappointed in the specifications department with their first 3D smartphone. The SH9298U features a 4.2-inch qHD 3D screen, 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB RAM, 2GB onboard storage and the two 8-megapixel cameras.
While the processor is slower than those used in the LG Optimus 3D and HTC EVO 3D, the Sharp has the better cameras. Two 8-megapixel cameras adorn the rear of the Aquos SH8298U, compared to dual 5-megapixel shooters which are used in the Optimus 3D and EVO 3D.
The 3D Aquos smartphone will be available in red and white (pictured above) and will be launching initially in Japan only.
We’ve also received an anonymous tip that suggests Sharp are planning to release another 3D capable Android smartphone which will fall into the Aquos family. Details are scarce, but so far we know the phone will run Android Gingerbread 2.3.4, feature a mini HDMI port, slim design and dual-cameras. There is also talk of a 2D-to-3D interface which can be turned on and off at the touch of an onscreen button.
