Whoa! What’s going on here?? We checked our Facebooks this morning to find another unexpected new ‘improvement’ to the layout of the social network and this one’s really causing some uproar!
You may have noticed when you logged in today that the previously simplistic News Feed with choice of ‘Top News’ or ‘Most Recent’ has been merged into one down that central main column, presenting you with a few ‘Recent Items’ in no particular order, followed by a spattering of posts from ‘Earlier Today’ and Facebook’s suggested ‘Top News’ in relation to the social nets skewed ideas of what might be interesting to you. They’ve ‘kindly’ marked these items with a blue corner, making it easier to notice them. This would be wonderful – if they hadn’t gone and messed up the whole interface!
In addition, you’ll now find that your friend’s latest activity is in a mini-Twitter-esque live feed on the right hand side of the page and it literally tells you every bit of your friend’s activity. From posting their own status, to liking someone else’s – completely unrelated to you.
Some early feedback plucked from our new look News Feed includes:
“WTF FACEBOOK!!!!!!”
“Mark Zuckerburg stop changing Facebook”
“Facebook is retarded now”
“Facebook you suck.. you just suck”
“So, now Facebook will only allow me to see or do what it thinks I’ll like. What are you, my mother?”
Quite a backlash. Has the Zuck gone too far with the changes this time? The kid’s more OCD than George Lucas prepping a Blu-Ray release.
The Gadget Helpline, however, has found a cunning loophole to get your old Facebook back. Follow these simple steps:
Go to the top right of your page and click Account.
Select Account Settings.
Go down to Language and click edit – changing the setting to English (US) to English (UK).
When you refresh your Facebook home page you should have things back to the way they were yesterday, before this social net nightmare gave you a rude awakening!
If you’re still fuming, we should mention that in other social networking news Google+ went live to the public this morning. And it couldn’t have come at a better time.
